Your clients have purchased a condo, but later discover the title is not in their names – what can you do?

In some condominium transactions, ownership of a parking space or locker gets overlooked and remains in the seller’s name instead of being transferred to the buyer. Worse still, sometimes the condo unit title itself is never transferred.

In a recent claim, years after purchasing their condo, a homeowner discovered they had received title to the parking spot PIN, but not the condo unit itself. The error had gone unnoticed through two successive sales, leaving the condo unit in the name of a former owner.

Thankfully, the homeowner had TitlePLUS insurance with automatic legal services coverage. TitlePLUS was able to retain legal counsel to investigate and learned that the person still holding title to the unit was long deceased. Counsel then located the estate trustee and arranged for the transfer of ownership to our insured.

TitlePLUS is the only 100% Canadian-owned title insurer and is proud to support the residential transactions of Canadians.
